APPARATUS FOR REMOVING IRON-BASED IMPURITIES IN VAPOR GROWN CARBON FIBERS

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for removing iron-based impurities in vapor grown carbon fibers by which the iron-based impurities contained in the carbon fibers after produced can efficiently be removed in a dry manner. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for removing the iron-based impurities in the vapor grown carbon fibers produced from a carbon source and an iron-based catalyst includes: iron-based impurities-removing means for removing the iron-based impurities; means for discharging the iron-based impurities-removed carbon fibers; means for discharging the removed iron-based impurities; switch means for switching the means for discharging the carbon fibers to a means for discharging the iron-based impurities or the means for discharging the iron-based impurities to the means for discharging the carbon fibers; and air-sucking or pressure-sending means for sucking or pressure-sending the air of the iron-based impurities-removing means. Preferably, the apparatus for removing the iron-based impurities includes disintegration means on the upstream side of the apparatus for removing the iron-based impurities.
