<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit that achieves enlargement, improvement on heat dissipation and weight reduction, and also achieves high contrast and energy-saving, and further has high luminance uniformity, and to provide an image display device using the backlight unit. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight unit includes a light source, a light guide for emitting light from the light source by leading to a liquid crystal panel side, a light source substrate for driving the light source, and a chassis wherein the light source, the light guide, and the light source substrate are prepared. A light-emitting surface of the light guide opposite to the liquid crystal panel is divided into a plurality of zones, and the light sources are arranged on divided zones, respectively. A diffusion member for diffusing light and an adjusting member for adjusting light-distributing distribution are arranged at a light-emitting surface side of the light guide, and the light source substrate is arranged between a bottom face of the light guide and the chassis. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
