PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new extremely mesoporous fullerene having an extremely regular mesostructure, morphology and a large specific surface area and a globular dimension, which can be used for various electrochemical purposes. SOLUTION: The regular mesoporous fullerene is produced in steps of: (1) dissolving a predetermined amount of fullerene in an organic solvent; (2) adding and mixing a predetermined amount of three-dimensional mesoporous silica (KIT-6) having large pores and cubic Ia3d symmetry into the fullerene dissolved in the organic solvent; (3) heating the mixture in a nitrogen atmosphere and maintaining it at about 900°C to obtain a compound material; (4) removing the silica by cleaning the compound material with HF; and (5) drying the obtained compound material. The regular mesoporous fullerene thus obtained has a large specific surface area (exceeding 200 m<SP>2</SP>/g) and the structure comprises fullerene aggregates. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
