When a control device (30) judges that an excessive power is generated according to excessive charge information on an accumulation device (B), the control device (30) starts consumption of the excessive power in an excessive power consumption circuit (20). The control device (30) counts the elapse time from the moment of the consumption start and switches the excessive power consumption circuit (20) from the operation state to the non-operation state when the counted elapse time exceeds a present minimum ON period. The minimum ON period is set according to a pattern of estimated generation of an excessive regenerative power from an AC motor (M1) by a sudden change of the travel state of an electric vehicle on which a motor drive system (100) is mounted.
