PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceiling embedded illumination apparatus in which a space required for work is small and the work is made easily, when exchange work of a light source is performed in a narrow space at the back of a ceiling. SOLUTION: The illumination apparatus 1 includes an apparatus case 2 embedded in the ceiling C and a movable plate 5 which is supported by the apparatus case 2 and includes a socket 4 on which the light source 3 is installed or removed. The apparatus case 2 includes a working aperture on the top part and includes a first and a second rails 27, 28 to guide both the ends of the movable plate 5 at the opposed side parts. The movable plate 5 rotates in the apparatus case 2 by being regulated by the rails 27, 28 and takes a posture of closing the working aperture 22 and a posture of opening the working aperture 22, and in the posture of opening the working aperture 22, installs or remove the light source 3 through the working aperture 22. Thereby, it is not necessary to take out the movable plate 5 to the outside of the apparatus case 2 for exchange work of the light source 3 as a conventional one, and the space required for work is small and the work is done easily.
