<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter substrate configuration for a liquid crystal display device, which eliminates the need for the surface modification of the underlayer surface, even when using the resist material for the resin black matrix of a standard composition, having suitable adherence to the underlayer surface to a level causing no detaching at resist development without requiring, thereby achieving microfabrication of a resin black matrix. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of colored layers 2 is formed on a translucent substrate 1. An overcoat layer 3 is formed on the colored layer. A transparent electrode 4 is stacked on the overcoat layer 3.
