PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which improves an image forming speed in a main scan direction, and to provide an image formation control method, an image formation control program and a recording medium. SOLUTION: In the multifunction apparatus 1, when a carriage loading an inkjet head of a head part 3 is moved in the main scan direction to form an image by each band, an invalid recording region detecting part 13 detects a main scan front end invalid recording region of the front end in the main scan direction, a main scan rear end invalid recording region of the rear end in the main scan direction, and a main scan middle invalid recording region according to which pixel is valid or invalid for formation of the dot image among each pixel data as the image data of each line of one band, and obtains region information indicative of information on each region, thereby controlling the movement in the main scan direction of the carriage on the basis of the region information.
