<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head mounted display that prevents a power source from being turned off when it is stopped, while obviating the need to perform an operation for starting and stopping the head mounted display. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The head mounted display that makes image light based on image information incident to the user's eyes, thereby enabling the user to view the image includes: an image forming section that emits the image light from an aperture; a reflecting plate that is freely turnably attached to a housing provided with the aperture, reflects at least part of the image light made incident from the image forming section, thereby making at least the part incident to the user's eyes; and a detecting section that detects the turning position of the reflecting plate.
