The device has an outer selector lever (6) connected with an inner selector lever (10) over a selector lever shaft (9) in a torque-proof manner. The inner lever is provided with a locking contour (17) that is loaded with a locking force of a locking unit (18), where the locking unit is integrated into a transmission housing. The inner lever is movable from a channel to another channel against a resetting force of the locking contour and the locking unit. A resistance device (19) induces additional force into the inner lever in a direction opposite to a selection path of the inner lever.
