The device (2) has a voltage supply source with wires (L, N) and connected with an input side of a line system (6), and a transformer (7) provided with one primary winding (prim1) and one secondary winding (sek). The transformer comprises another primary winding (prim2) such that the transformer is adapted for a performance requirement of electrical devices by switching the former primary winding. The latter primary winding is serially arranged with the former primary winding so that the primary windings serially operate the transformer. An independent claim is also included for a method for minimizing dissipation loss by a low voltage supply device.
