The source uses an external resonant cavity, preferably in a Littman-Metcalf configuration, formed by amplifier waveguides (39), a lattice (1) and a partially reflecting mirror (9). Light from the waveguides is collimated by a lens (4) onto the lattice via an inclined low resolution Fabry-Perot interferometer (12) serving as a broad filter. The interferometer has the same wavelength-angle of incidence characteristics as the partial mirror and prevents 'double-cavity' effects and their consequent spurious outputs.
|
