The method involves determining control data for controlling a tool (130) of a machine tool (100). A clamping situation-difference is determined between a clamping situation-actual condition and a clamping situation-reference condition. Transformed control data is produced by execution of a transformation of a part of the determined data depending on the clamping situation-difference. The tool is controlled based on the transformed data such that the tool separates a tool path with a certain tool orientation for machining a workpiece (200) depending on the clamping situation-difference. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for generating control data for controlling a tool on a machine tool for machining a workpiece (2) a machine tool with five axles for machining a workpiece by a tool (3) a computer program product including a computer-readable medium and computer program stored on the medium for executing a method for generating control data for controlling a tool on a machine tool for machining a workpiece.
