An implant (20) for fixation of a bone includes a shaft (24) having a proximal end (26) and a distal end (28), and a longitudinal axis (30) defined between the proximal end (26) and the distal end (28). A plurality of blades (32) are disposed on the shaft (24), and are helically twisted about the longitudinal axis (30). At least one of the blades (32b, 32d) has a variable blade width (wb, wd) that increases in a direction along the longitudinal axis (30). A mechanism for coupling the implant (20) to a second fracture fixation implant (22) may be provided separately or in combination.
