PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively cool the crystal and avoid burnout of the same in a cooling device (7) comprising Peltier elements (18) and mainly intended for cooling laser beams (2) exposed to a high temperature stress, basically an optical crystal for generating laser pulses or a laser crystal (5). SOLUTION: This cooling device can be used, for example, for cooling an optical amplifier or oscillator. A crystal (5) is evacuated together with Peltier elements (18) for cooling the same by using a desiccating substance, and/or disposed in an encapsulated container (8) kept dry. The crystal includes at least one Brewster's window (32, 33) allowing the passage of the laser beams (2), wherein the window is arranged at an angle corresponding to the Brewster angle relative to the optical axis.
