PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position determination device for an automatic transmission capable of accurately determining a position including a position small in a detent width. SOLUTION: In the automatic transmission having positions such as P, R, N, D, D3, 2-1, a position sensor is provided for generating output showing the position in accordance with an output characteristicαset to be non-linear at least between any of the positions, for example, among R, N and D, with respect to a rotation angle of a control shaft rotated in accordance with selection of a select lever by a driver and fitted to a detent in accordance with the position to hold a position of a manual valve.
