<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer machine capable of detecting the existence or nonexistence of a work without wiring an optical sensor to a fork. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the transfer machine, each pair of first arm 1 and second arm 2, coupled so as to be capable of bending and stretching, is arranged to right and left, and while base portions of the first arms 1 are respectively connected to drive shafts 3, forks 4 are supported by the ends of the second arms 2, so that the forks 4 are moved forward and backward by bending and stretching of respective arms 1 and 2. In the transfer machine, an optical sensor 10, which detects the existence or nonexistence of the work W on the fork 4, is provided into the body of the transfer machine 7, a mirror 11, which has a shutter mechanism with a light shielding plate 12 opened and closed by the existence or nonexistence of the work W on the fork 4 and an actuation mechanism 13 thereof, is arranged to reflect the light of the optical sensor 10 by the mirror 11 so as to be capable of detecting the existence or nonexistence of the work W, and the optical sensor 10 is attached to a position off a path that the mirror 11 passes.
