<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide network equipment which can reduce power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The network equipment (image formation device) 1 is connected to the other network equipment via a network at a plurality of communication speeds to enable communication. When the network equipment 1 is in the communication standby state, the communication speed setting is switched to a low-speed mode at N (N>0) stage if no communication request is received for a given length of time, and communication is completed at a currently set communication speed if a communication request comes from the other network equipment.
