摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction damper capable of preventing problems such as damage or breaking of a first structure 1 and a second structure 2 by exercising large damping force during a giant earthquake without using electric power, and positively suppressing relative displacement between the first structure and the second structure within an allowable stroke. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The friction damper includes a cylinder 11 connected to one of the first structure 1 and the second structure 2, a first piston 25 connected to the other and slidably provided in the cylinder 11, a second piston 26 facing the first piston 25 at a predetermined interval, a connection mechanism 31 mutually connecting the first and second pistons 25, 26 when a relative displacement exceeds a predetermined value, and a friction mechanism 51 regulating sliding of the second piston 26 with respect to the cylinder 11.
