<p>A titanium alloy containing from 8 to 10 per cent by weight of aluminium; from 1.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent zirconium, from 0.05 per cent to 0.2 per cent carbon; and from 0.1 per cent to 0.2 per cent oxygen; from 0.1 per cent to three per cent of beta stabiliser formed of molybdenum and niobium; and from zero to 0.5 per cent silicon, the balance being essentially titanium; the alloy having a phase composition which contains not less than eighty per cent by volume of the alpha phase. The alloy may be produced in the form of a finished or semi-finished article by a method comprising controlled extrusion at a temperature below the beta transus of the composition.</p> |
