PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: The method for producing the 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid comprises the following processes: (1) a process for reacting a dilower alkyl 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate with a basic alkali metal compound in an aqueous solvent selected from water and mixture solvents comprising water and 1-6C alcohols to obtain the dialkali metal 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate solution; (2) a process for distilling out an alcohol by-produced by the reaction and the alcohol contained in the solvent until to give a content of ≤2 wt.% based on the reaction solution, during the reaction of the process (1) and/or after the reaction; and (3) a process for acid-depositing the dialkali metal 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate solution from which the alcohols have been distilled out in the process (2).
