<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system which reliably and promptly arrests an intruder or intruding object. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The monitoring system includes: an intrusion detection means which detects the position of the intruder or intruding object in a predetermined monitoring area; one or more sound emission means which emits a beam type arresting sound wave obtained by modulating ultrasound with audible sound waves; an emission direction set means which sets the direction of the arresting sound wave emitted from the sound emission means; and a controller which controls the emission direction set means so that the arresting sound wave is emitted to the intruder or intruding object based on the position of the intruder or intruding object detected by the intrusion detection means.
