PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine load detecting device reducing effects of dimensional tolerance of a pulsar rotor and accurately detecting a load state of an engine while taking engine speed fluctuation into consideration. SOLUTION: A detecting section for detecting an average engine speed NeA is set to a length of two rotations of a crankshaft starting from a passing start point G3 of a second reluctor 12. The detecting section is divided into four sections of a first reluctor sectionωtdc1 and a second reluctor section corresponding to a position where the second reluctor 12 passes a pickup 20, and a first section and a second section corresponding to a position where the second reluctor 12 does not pass the pickup 20. A first average value H1 which is an average of a first rotational speedω4(n-1) and a second rotational speedω4(n) is obtained, and a second average value H2 which is an average of a first reluctor rotational speedωtdc1 and a second reluctor rotational speedωtdc2 is obtained. NeA is calculated by multiplying the second average value H2 by a value obtained by dividing the first average value H1 by the first rotational speedω4(n-1). COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
