<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily recognize change of characteristics of left and right lung fields for permitting efficient image reading. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The medical image processing apparatus includes an image analyzing means for extracting the left and right lung fields included in a medical image (a step S1) and computing the difference in the quantity of characteristics between the extracted left and right lung fields (a step S3), and a means for creating characteristic information representing the computed difference in the quantity of characteristics relative to the positions of the lung fields and displaying the created information together with the medical image in a display means (a step S4).
