PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasmon excitation sensor that has high sensitivity and has high accuracy, and is superior in specificity that is essential for immunoassay, to provide an assay method using the plasmon excitation sensor, and to provide a device for assay and a kit for assays. SOLUTION: The plasmon excitation sensor includes a transparent planar substrate 1; a metal thin film 11 formed on one surface of the substrate; a spacer layer, made of a dielectric formed on the other surface does not abut against the substrate of the metal thin film; and a ligand that is immobilized on the other surface which does not abut against the metal thin film of the spacer layer and is labeled by a fluorescent dye 5.
