PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake air control device for an engine, suppressing deterioration of combustibility caused by residual gas. SOLUTION: This intake air control device for controlling intake air volume supplied to the engine 100 is provided with: a variable valve gear 200 changing the operating angle of an intake valve 22; and a control means for controlling the variable valve gear 200 so that the operating angle of the intake valve 22 is reduced according as an engine load is reduced and a rate of change in the operating angle when the engine load is reduced is lower than that when the engine load is increased. Since the variable valve gear 200 is controlled so that the speed of change in the operating angle when the engine load is reduced is lower than that when the engine load is increased, the deterioration of combustibility is suppressed without suddenly increasing a residual gas rate when the engine load is reduced.
