<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt carrying device and an image forming apparatus using the same, improving separating performance of a record medium from a belt without deteriorating the quality of an image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The belt carrying device includes: the belt carrying the record medium; and a record medium separating roller abutting on the inside of the belt and provided with a spiral projection formed on the surface thereof. The spiral projection abuts on the belt to deform the belt and generate a wavy swell on the belt surface, whereby a gap is formed between the record medium and the belt to improve the separating performance of the record medium from the belt.
