<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a method for producing an epoxy compound, which can solve the problems of a method using a heteropolyacid, wherein an expensive heavy metal is used as a catalyst and the catalyst cannot be recovered; a method using a titanosilicate catalyst, wherein it has been reported that the reaction conversion rate of methacryl chloride or the like is low; a method passing through a chlorohydrylation process, wherein an olefin compound is produced as a by-product and the objective compound can not been obtained efficiently, in a process for obtaining a dichlorohydrin intermediate from methacryl chloride, and the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the epoxy compound comprises halohydrylating an olefin with an N-bromo compound or an N-iodo compound in the presence of water, and then reacting the product with a base to close the ring.
