<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material for a core material which has an enough strength as the core material and can be produced inexpensively and a method for producing the composite material. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The composite material includes a core material substrate made of a dry palm tree or a dry gum tree and a surface material which is joined integratedly to at least one side of the core material substrate, and the surface material is formed from bamboo material fragments.
