<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network interface device or the like for preventing printing from being delayed when authentication is disabled due to down of an authentication server. <P>SOLUTION: When a user hold an IC card 410 over a card reader 400, the card reader 400 reads a card ID 211 and transmits it to a printer 1000. An LDAP server 200 transmits a user name retrieved from an LDAP directory 201 to the printer 1000. The printer 1000 stores the card ID 211 and the user name in association with each other. When the user issues an instruction to print data, a printer driver transmits a job to the printer 1000. If NIC 700 connected to the printer 1000 receives the job and the user name contained in the job matches the stored user name, it is stored in a mass storage 500.
