<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell improved in output performance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell has a cathode catalyst layer 5, an anode catalyst layer 7, an electrolyte membrane 2 which is formed between the cathode catalyst layer 5 and the anode catalyst layer 7, and an anode gas diffusion layer 8 which is laminated on the anode catalyst layer 7 and includes first to third water repellent porous layers 9, 11, 12. The air permeability resistivity of the first water repellent porous layer 9 is larger than that of the second water repellent porous layer 11, and the total of the air permeability resistivity of the first water repellent porous layer 9 and the second water repellent porous layer 11 is larger than that of the third water repellent porous layer 12.
