PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forwardly inclining wheelchair in a simple construction which is easier to take a forwardly inclined position for its user to get it off by the help of a caretaker, and in which the user can do so without throwing or folding up the foot plates; this forward inclination system being applicable to a wheelchair of the foot-plate folding type too. Ž
SOLUTION: When a person sitting on a wheelchair tries to get it off and a caretaker lifts up the handles 7 provided on a wheelchair body frame 1, an elastic flexible member 20, with its lock released, extends to an extension position so that it can leave a concave engagement portion 23 provided above an axle of a base frame 2 supported by a wheel axle 13 of a rear wheel 12 and from a convex engagement portion 24 of the body frame 1, and can be locked at the extension position. In the meantime, the wheelchair body frame 1 inclines toward the forward inclined position. The body frame 1 is connected with the base frame 2 via a pivoted shaft 14, and pivots around the pivoted shaft as a fulcrum during its inclining movement. When the body frame 1 reaches the forward inclined position, foot plates 5 have lowered to contact the ground or nearly contact the ground surface, so the wheelchair user, by the help of the caretaker, can stand up on the foot plates by treading them, instead of throwing them up.
