PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sediment detection method and a sediment detector which can detect the amount of sediment within a pipe by a simple structure and improve detection accuracy. SOLUTION: The sediment detection method includes a pair of electrodes in a pipe to detect the amount of sediment within the pipe through a change in the capacitance between the electrodes. One of the electrodes is arranged concentrically with the pipe serving as a cylindrical central electrode, while the other electrode is arranged on the side of the pipe facing the central electrode.
