<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a server device which can provide information matching user's tastes, and a method of controlling the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The server device includes a storage section 80 which stores a model of a terminal device 50 and a group to which the model of the terminal device 50 belongs, while associating the model and the group with each other and a control section 60 which searches the groups stored in the storage section 80 for a group, to which the model of the terminal device 50 belongs, on the basis of model information when the model information about the model of the terminal device 50 is transmitted from the terminal device 50. The control section directs the terminal device 50 to display provided information corresponding to the group to which the model of the terminal device 50 belongs, when the group, to which the model of the terminal device 50 belongs, can be searched, and also directs the terminal device 50 to display the provided information selected in advance when the group, to which the model of the terminal device 50 belongs, can not be searched.
