<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device capable of accurately detecting a pattern, which is added to a document image and represents a restriction in duplication of the document image, and to provide an image forming apparatus including the image processing device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: First and second linear image determining sections 13a, 13b determine whether or not a specific linear image forming a portion of a pattern representing a restriction in duplication of a predetermined document image is included in the document image, and when the linear image is included, it is next determined by a pattern determining section 14 whether or not an image within a predetermined region including the linear image is the pattern. A determination criterion to be used by the pattern determining section 14 is set in accordance with thickness of the linear image detected, so that an image that is a pattern not to be detected is prevented from being erroneously determined as a pattern, and the pattern can be extracted promptly with high accuracy.
