The method involves determining a starting time point (tstarti) of a signal section from a time point, which belongs to a definite event, which occurs in a timing circuit or in an external trigger signal or in a signal that is derived from another signal. End time point of the signal section is determined from another time point, which belongs to a definite another event, which is related with the former event. Signal characteristics of detected signals are selected in a signal section based on the events. The time points occur in definite temporal spaces with definite temporal tolerances. An independent claim is also included for a device for selection of detected signal characteristics.
