PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of achieving a digital compass function that facilitates searching a specified direction by creating as software a function that enables detecting the specified direction including the direction of Mecca through the use of location information on a mobile terminal apparatus and an observed direction of at least one celestial object of celestial objects including the sun, the moon, a constellation, and a specified star, and installing the function in expensive and inexpensive mobile terminal apparatus, and to provide the mobile terminal apparatus to which the method is applied. SOLUTION: The architecture of the digital compass function includes: computing the east, west, south, and north directions with reference to celestial objects including the sun, the moon, a constellation, and a specified star by using the current time information and current location information including the latitude and longitude of the mobile terminal apparatus; calculating the direction of Mecca with reference to the current location information and the computed east, west, south and north directions; and to output each of images representing the celestial objects, the east, west, south and north directions, and the direction of Mecca on a display.
