PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a recording throughput decrease even when both color image portion and monochrome image portion are present, in a recording device in which an n-number (n is an integer of 2 or greater) of line heads for the same color ink for monochrome recording and a plurality of line heads for a plurality of color inks for color recording are arranged in parallel in the direction of conveyance of a recording medium and used, an n-number recording heads are successively used for monochrome recording of different rasters and the recording heads are successively used for color recording of the same raster. SOLUTION: An arrangement of a monochrome recording area on a recording medium and a color recording area on the recording medium is recognized. If they are separated in the direction of conveyance, the conveying speed of a recording medium is improved during the period of monochrome recording in the monochrome recording area on the recording medium.
