PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which prevents a photographer from erroneously recognizing an exposure timing, when performing exposure for recording while shooting an image for display by an imaging device. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with: the imaging device 110 picking up an image by an optical system; a first focus detection means 170 detecting a focus evaluated value concerning contrast of the image by the optical system; a second focus detection means 161 detecting a focus adjustment state of the optical system on the basis of a pair of luminous fluxes through the optical system; an operation member 151 manually operated to allow the first focus detection means or the second focus detection means to act; and a control means 170 allowing either the first focus detection means or the second focus detection means to act according to whether the image is picked up by the imaging device when the operation member is operated.
