PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner with which cleaning can be comfortably conducted while saving energy. SOLUTION: The electric vacuum cleaner is provided with a controlling means which controls the electric supply to an electric blower 2, a sucking fixture 8 which is connected to the electric blower 2 and is provided with a sucking slot 11 for sucking dust of a floor surface to be cleaned, a landing detecting means 12 which detects whether the sucking fixture 8 is in contact with the floor surface to be cleaned, and a dust detecting means 5 which is installed on a hose 4 between the electric blower 2 and the sucking fixture 8 and detects the sucked dust. The controlling means reduces the supplied electricity volume wx to the electric blower 2 when the sucking fixture 8 is removed from the floor surface to be cleaned from Wa when the sucking fixture 8 is in contact with the floor surface to be cleaned to Wc (provided that, Wa>Wc), and in such condition returns the supplied electricity volume wx to the electric blower 2 to Wa in the case where the dust detecting means 5 detects dust of a volume of a first specific threshold value Da or above which is predetermined within a specific time.
