The method involves providing an X-ray detector in which an upper detection layer (1) is formed such that the layer absorbs a portion of incident X-ray radiation, where the portion is less than 10 percent of the radiation. Measurement signals of a lower detection layer (2) or a combination of measurement signals of the layers is utilized for image reconstruction without energy discrimination in order to produce a non-energy selective X-ray image of an object region. The image reconstruction is performed using a statistical iterative image reconstruction technique. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for producing an X-ray image.
