NAMPT AND VITAMIN B3 FOR TREATING OR PREVENTING DISEASES

The present invention relates to the use of vitamin B3 and compounds derived therefrom as well as to nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) and derivatives thereof as well as enhancers or inducers of NAMPT expression, NAMPT activity or NAMPT-mediated signalling for preventing or treating all types of cytopenia of the myeloid or lymphoid lineage. In a particular embodiment, the present invention relates to the use of the above referenced compounds for treating neutropenia, like severe congenital neutropenia or chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia or other congenital or acquired neutropenia. The invention also relates to the mobilisation of hematopoietic stem cells into peripheral blood. In another aspect, the present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing as active ingredients vitamin B3 and metabolites thereof or NAMPT and modulators of the NAMPT activity, NAMPT expression or NAMPT mediated signalling in a combination with a therapeutically active or suboptimal amount of G-CSF.
