A backlight device (12) is provided with: a cold-cathode tube (18); a chassis (14) which houses the cold-cathode tube (18); an inverter substrate (20) which is arranged on the chassis (14) side opposite to the side where the cold cathode tube (18) is housed and supplies the cold cathode tube (18) with drive power; and a relay connector (21), which is assembled to the chassis (14) and relays power supply between the inverter substrate (20) and the cold cathode tube (18).  The inverter substrate (20) is capable of moving the non-inserted position thereof separated from the relay connector (21) and the inserted position thereof inserted in the relay connector (21), in one direction along the substrate surface of the inverter substrate (20), and the backlight device is provided with an aligning structure which can align the inverter substrate (20) at the non-inserted position with respect to the chassis (14) in at least one direction along the substrate surface.
