<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader reducing moire and reading color images speedily, and also to provide a method of driving line sensors. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A scanner S, namely an image reader, has: a four-line CCD sensor 9 including a plurality of line sensors for reading each color for composing a color image; a timing generation section 32 for supplying a reset signal at severally independent timing to respective line sensors for composing the four-line CCD sensor 9; and an image processing section 34 for processing signals outputted by the respective line sensors, based on the reset signal that has been supplied to the respective line sensors at the independent timing by the timing generation section 32.
