A cooling system for cooling an internal combustion engine (10) includes a first portion (81), a second portion (82) and a bypass valve (89). The first portion (81) forms a first fluid chamber (C1) through which a cooling medium passes as it flows from the engine to a heater (4) that utilizes heat generated by the internal combustion engine (10). The second portion (82) forms a second fluid chamber (C2) through which the cooling medium passes as it flows from the heater (4) to the engine. The second fluid chamber (C2) is arranged adjacent to the first fluid chamber (C1). The bypass valve (89) is arranged inside the first fluid chamber (C1) and the second fluid chamber (C2) to form a bypass flow passage (BP) connecting the first fluid chamber (C1) and the second fluid chamber (C2). The bypass valve (89) is configured and arranged to automatically close the bypass flow passage (BP) when a temperature of the cooling medium is equal to or higher than a first prescribed temperature.
