<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user's relevant information from a relevant information storage device such as an authentication device that manages the relevant information by means of a user identifier and a kind identifier that are different from those of its own device. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus stores in association a first attribute name for identifying the kind of each user's attribute information at its own device and a second attribute device for identifying the kind at the authentication device, and stores in association a first user identifier for identifying each user at its own device and a second user identifier for identifying the user at the authentication device. When instructions are given to designate the first user identifier and the first attribute name and to obtain the user attribute information, the second user identifier corresponding to the first user identifier and the second attribute name corresponding to the first attribute name are sent to the authentication device to request the user attribute information.
