<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve volumetric efficiency by providing an appropriate intake pressure, in the rotational area of an engine extending over a wide range. <P>SOLUTION: A variable valve timing mechanism 21 is provided, which varies the valve opening timing of an intake valve 19. A pulse generator 50 is provided which opens at least between the middle of the intake stroke of the engine and the compression stroke thereof in response to the intake stroke of each of cylinders and forms high pressure wave in a cylinder. Control is performed to advance the opening timing of the pulse generator 50 with increasing the rotational area of the engine to a high speed side and to delay the valve opening timing of the intake valve 19. Thereby, high pressure wave by the pulse generator 50 is provided in a low speed rotation area, and excessive pressure rising is suppressed in a middle/high speed area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
