<p>A method of controlling data transfer in a multichannel wireless video system which comprises a plurality of video data sources, a transmitter operable to transmit video data from the video data sources over an air interface, a plurality of client receivers operable to receive transmitted video data, the method comprising estimating available channel capacity for each client receiver 52, using parameters relating to the air interface, and using information relating queuing of video data in the video data sources; determining a target bit transmit rate for each client receiver 62 in dependence upon the estimated channel capacity, a quality parameter 54, and an activity parameter 56 for the client receiver concerned; and controlling the video data sources and transmitter in dependence upon the determined bit transmit rates. The channel capacity for each client is the capacity if each client were to utilize 100% of available channel capacity. The quality parameter 58 may relate to picture quality such as resolution and clarity and the activity parameter 60 may be generated from motion level, image texture detail and frame statistics.</p> |
