A method for the production of melamine by reacting urea in presence of a solid catalyst in one or more reactors in series at 370-430[deg] C, then cooling and filtering the gas obtained, removing the melamine by desublimation and recycling some of the remaining gas to the reactor(s), involves carrying out all the above stages at a pressure of 4-10 bar abs.
