Method and apparatus for forming cracks in concrete by impacting along the lines of an inset in the cast slab

A method and apparatus (24) for forming at least one crack (11) in a concrete article (25) is disclosed. The concrete article (25), such as a floor slab, has at least one crack promoting insert (12) cast within it. The method comprises the steps of positioning a tool having a force applying member (26) on or above the insert (12) imbedded in the concrete article (25) then causing the tool to apply through the force applying member (26) a force to the concrete article (25). This will promote the formation of a crack (11) in the concrete article (25) along the insert (12).
