Improved carbon capture in microbial fermentation of industrial gases to ethanol

Disclosed is a method of capturing carbon by microbial fermentation, the method comprising: i. receiving one or more intermittent or non-continuous gas streams (15) in a buffering means (16); ii. passing a substantially continuous gas stream (17) from the buffering means to a bioreactor (5) containing a culture of one or more micro-organisms; and iii. fermenting the culture in the bioreactor to produce one or more products. Particularly preferred embodiments utilise a waste gas stream from a steel making process which contains carbon monoxide, the micro-organism is preferably Clostridium autoethanogenum and the product is ethanol.
